Southern Gospel Music Guild Helps Promote
Southern Gospel Music Presence During Gospel Music Week 2005

It's that time of year when the streets of Nashville, Tennessee ring with Gospel Music and once again the Southern Gospel Music Guild (SGMG) has helped to make sure Southern Gospel is set to play a huge part of Gospel Music Week 2005.

During April 9-13, 2005 Music City is the place to be if you are a Gospel music fan.  Events range from Sunday Evening Worship to Songwriters Showcases to the best performances from your favorite groups to the Dove Awards.  Southern Gospel will play a part in all aspects.  The Gospel Music Association hosts the week in which they hold seminars for radio stations, managers, artists, bookstores, promoters and anyone else who is in the industry or would like to be.  They also treat those individuals with concerts from their favorite artists and showcase new and upcoming music and talent.  They cap the week off with the biggest night in Gospel Music, the Dove Awards, to honor artists with major accomplishments from the year.

The Gospel Music Association invited Southern Gospel artists to be apart of the week, while the Southern Gospel Music Guild (SGMG) continued to be a major influence in making sure those artists were placed in every possible track and event.  The Guild is also responsible for a late night showcase featuring the best in Southern Gospel.

Sunday afternoon brings Southern Gospel radio, along with all other genres of Gospel music, together for an afternoon of roundtable discussions.  Radio stations from across the globe will come together to talk about pressing issues in the radio field.  The Guild has elected Rhonda Thompson of Daywind Music to head up the afternoon with special appearances from DJs in Southern Gospel.  Interesting topics include "Serving The Community Through Promotions," "Seeking God's Vision for your Station," "Help! Chick-Fil-A Wants My Non-Com to do a Remote," as well as many others.

Southern Gospel is once again represented on Monday, where Gloria Gaither and Mark Lowry are set to host a songwriting session entitled "The Power (We Hope) Of The Pen…Or In Mark's Words, "How To Write A Hit." This powerful session will focus on "It's All About the Song," with the entire presentation by Gloria and Mark.

The Christian Music Retail Conference is designed for those on the retail side of Christian music.  The GMA is offering a Coupon Reimbursement Passport to those retailers in attendance.  You get rewarded with nearly $1,000 worth of free product from the labels presenting just for attending CMRC! This exclusive passport program pays for the cost of your GMA Week registration and more.

New Day Christian Distributors will host its annual new product presentation on Tuesday at 9:30 am in the Hilton Suites Ballroom.

The Hilton Suites Nashville Downtown will again this year be home to the Southern Gospel Music Guild's Late Night of Southern Gospel.  On Tuesday, April 12th at 9:30 pm several of Southern Gospel's top artists will take the stage to perform your favorite songs.  At this time, The Issacs, Karen Peck and New River, Legacy Five, The Crabb Family, The Perrys and Crossway have been confirmed.  Keep watching for more details on this exciting event!

Ending the week on Wednesday, February 13, 2005, The Dove Awards will be handed out at the famous Grand Ole Opry House.  The Guild is proud to announce that Southern Gospel is set for a big night with nominations not only in their categories, but also in the major Top 5 categories bringing Southern Gospel to the forefront.  The Crabb Family is nominated for Song of the Year ("Through The Fire"), Group of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year (Jason Crabb).

SGMG

In 1986, several Southern Gospel music leaders decided the industry needed an organization to foster the growth of the Southern Gospel music genre. Through the years, the Guild has grown to include every facet of the Southern Gospel music industry, encompassing artists (full-time and part-time), record companies, radio, promoters, publishers, distributors, talent management, media representatives and booking agents.  The SGMG Mission Statement states "With Jesus Christ as our cornerstone, to create a cooperative environment designed to encourage excellence, education, awareness, and growth, while preserving the essence of Southern Gospel Music."
